<3 Siena <3

We have made it to Siena! After a long bus ride we are finally here. My room mate is amazing (her name is Julia and she is from Chicago) and our host parents are so great!(Paula and Marco) They speak zero english and we have a hard time communicating but it is so fun! We live in an adorable town home with 2 gardens, where we eat our meals when the weather is good. Siena is more than I ever could have imagined! I feel like Im walking through modern Excalibur with the stone streets and hardly any cars drive inside the walls of siena. There are thousands of Vespa's everywhere. On days when there are soccer games the entire piazza Gramchi is filled with them and it looks like a liquidation sale. We are heading to Florence on Thursday and Volterra on Saturday (shout out to all the Twilight fans)

Well, Im off to take my morning run that looks over all of Siena Ciao!

Amalfi and Minori

Amalfi and Minori are so beautiful! They are small little beach towns on the coast of Southern Italy. We spent the few days there shopping and on the beach and it couldnt have been better! We stayed in Minori but to get to Amalfi you take a 10 minute boat ride. The view was AMAZING!

Meet Pablo.... Pablo worked on the boat that took us to Amalfi. I asked him to take a picture of some of us girls and after taking it, he wanted to be in one, following the picture he turns and says in some form of english "now find me on faccia book (facebook)" We died! As I was getting off the boat he said , "when you come back? I wait here." Remembering the advice of my mother (give Italian men the "face") I just laughed to myself and said Ciao! (we took a different boat back to Minori and I never saw Pablo again) hahaha. Oh Italian men sure are..... well, confident? Until next time
Arrivederci

It's finally here!

Caio!!!!

Hi Everyone! I finally have had a minute to rest and get on the internet for a bit. The past 5 days have been CRAZY! So here is what’s been on the agenda:

· Coliseum

· Spanish Steps

· Vatican

· Pantheon

· Trevi Fountain

· Borgesee Museum

· Herculaneum and Pompeii

· And so many other things

I got in on Friday night and after 10 hours next to a rather broad man who smelled of feet and curry, a 5 hour lay over in London, and a 2 hour plane ride to Italy, a taxi ride, 30 minutes of getting lost on the way to my Bed and Breakfast, and 2 hours of waiting before getting in my room. I finally made it to my room. I spent the evening with a few of the girls on the Spanish Steps eating ananas gelato. (pineapple) Simply heaven! We’ve been so crazy busy and haven’t stopped going since I’ve been here. I have had so much fun! I’m a little homesick, mainly because I have hardly been able to talk to my parents but I finally got to talk to them today! We have made our way from Rome to Pompeii to Minori. Rome was great, Too much to do for my jet lag to enjoy 100% but it was so fun still. We are now in Minori which is a gorgeous beach side town with houses on the cliffs and small beaches with small fishing boats all around. Tomorrow we are going to a market in the morning and the beach in the afternoon. Friday we are off to Amalfi to see the city. I probably wont update until Siena but I’ll keep you updated!

Ciao!

Ace of Cakes.....

So much for blogging on a regular basis.... I get a big fat F in this department. Time is flying by and I am approximately 69 days away from moving to Italy. I am so antsy to go and can't wait for the experience. School has been keeping me very busy and I am ready to collapse from exhaustion, I am hanging in there though. School ends in about 4 weeks and then I have some time to relax and breath before I head off for the adventure of a lifetime. 3+ months traveling through Italy and becoming a art pondering, leather wearing, gelato eating, American girl wishing that she was Italian.... Thinking about it gets me through the stress of this semester.

So, a friend of mine is hosting a Bridal Shower tomorrow for a friend of ours and my assignment for the blessed event was.....
THE CAKE!
Her colors are Brown, Tan, and accents Copper. (Obviously...) Its a two tier Chocolate Cake with butter cream filling covered in Tan fondant.... The flowers are apple blossoms in copper royal icing, wild roses in beige royal icing and Full Roses in white Royal Icing and The letter J in royal icing and it stands for Jaqueline, the bride to be! It was so fun to put cake knowledge to the test and create this cake. There are a few things I would have done a little different, The colors I feel were the closest I could get to the actual wedding colors. I would have tried lighter colors for the flowers but I had a really good time and the very small perfectionist side of me comes out in full form. I felt bad for my roommates that had to put up with me while I made the flowers. In all, the cake probably took me around 15 hours total to make.... It is an expensive and time consuming talent to partake in. I love seeing my creations come all together and look like what I was invisioning. I'm not much of an artist so making cakes is my one claim to fame in that department.

This is my first fondant project I made back in October! Fondant is a personal favorite to decorate cakes bacause its fun to make and to use! I never would have thought I would be into baking and cooking but I love it. So much in fact that I have decided to cluster in it along with Home and Family management (Sewing basically) and I am still majoring in Communications (because talking is a favorite of mine and one of my skills if you didn't know.) I am turning into quite the "Molly".... Something no one ever whould have guessed! Well, that's enough for now! Hopefully I will keep up with this thing!

Ciao Bebe!

The tickets have been officially purchased! I have a flight from LAX to Rome, Italy set September 3- December 1 2009! And I CANT WAIT! My Italian is far from ready for the trip but hopefully Rosetta Stone will pull through and create miracles out of no where... I have a feeling there might not be any miracles but I am still crossing My fingers....

So I am one week away from heading back to school... Bitter sweet...

Positives: Back with all my friends, Idaho is so fun in the summer, I live in the cutest house in Rexburg, I will have to best roommates EVER. Just 3 of us! Horkleys, Rigby Lake..... it means Italy is not too far away, NO MORE TAX RETURNS 1099S EFILE FORMS no more work! I get to play Volleyball! Etc.

Negatives: Cold right now, No more beach for a while, No Golden spoon, my family is here, 8 million hour drive back to Idaho..... I wont be in CA anymore....
